We know that providing quality pregnancy care and educational support to mothers reduces infant mortality and morbidity. Great Start Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) was founded in 2016 by Jennifer Shepherd, who also benefited from MIHP services as a young single mother. Jennifer graduated from Wayne State University and now serves as the Executive Director and Program Coordinator of Great Start Maternal Infant Health Program and Founder of Great Start Foundation Inc. Her vision is to help encourage, empower, and educate mothers on how to overcome obstacles in life. Great Start provides support and services to at-risk, socioeconomically disadvantaged mothers and infants who live in Macomb, Wayne, Oakland, Lapeer, Washtenaw, Genesee, Saginaw and St. Clair Counties. In doing so, mothers will have the resources to create a healthy and safe home environment.
