We know that providing quality pregnancy care and educational support to mothers reduces infant mortality and morbidity. Great Start Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) was founded in 2016, by Jennifer Shepherd who also benefited from MIHP services as a young single mother. Her vision is to help encourage, empower, and educate mothers on how to overcome obstacles in life. Great Start provides support and services to at-risk, socioeconomically disadvantaged mothers and infants who live in Macomb, Wayne, Oakland, and St. Clair Counties. In doing so, mothers will have the resources to create a healthy and safe home environment.
